Belgian Study of 3600 people with normal blood pressure, followed for 7.9 years – Those who ate less salt were the most likely to die from heart disease. Study found that after 13 to 60 months of salt restriction, the average drop in systolic (top number) blood pressure was 1.1 mmHg (millimeters of mercury). Reducing sodium (salt intake) causes insulin resistance and promotes diabetes. In fact, recent studies have found that sodium significantly improves insulin function. Our ancestors used to cure meat in salt, yet diabetes and heart disease were unheard of.
